Everyone loves Christmas. Friends and family, mulled wine, turkey with all the trimmings and the Christmas tree in the living room surrounded by presents!
What's not so fun is leaving your Christmas shopping till the last minute.
Handing over a gift you picked up in a last minute dash to the Supermarket just doesn't give you that warm fuzzy glow you get when you know you've taken the time and found them something they'll LOVE.
As a maker and small business owner, I'm also a huge fan of doing your Christmas Shopping through local, handmade businesses. Not only will you end up with a unique and personal gift, but you'll also make the day of the seller. I still get a little tingle of excitement when a sale comes through, knowing that someone out there (who I don't know) likes my jewellery enough to pay for it with real money!
If this sounds like your cup of tea, you'll be pleased to hear that there are loads of places to search for handmade, local gifts. I've lined up my go-to platforms and sellers when I'll on the hunt for that perfect present.
1 - ETSY If you're into handmade stuff and haven't heard of Etsy, you must have been living under a rock. This is the No. 1 site for handmade and vintage products. Etsy is a worldwide platform which allows pretty much anyone to set up shop and get selling.
2 - FOLKSY
This is much like Etsy, except it's exclusively for handmade, British products; so if you're all about the local side of things, this could be the site for you.
KIDS - BOODLE BOUTIQUEmakes awesome hand screen printed T-shirts and baby grows for kids (and grown ups!). Based in Bristol she hand screen prints her own designs onto organic cotton T's using eco friendly inks. You can't get much better than that!
HOMEWARES - ROLFE & WILLS sell mugs, coasters, placemats, tea towels and more. Minimal, contemporary design with a Scandi feel make these the perfect gift.
JEWELLERY - MYBEARHANDSyep that's me! Why not treat your loved one to a gorgeous personalised solid brass brooch. The timeless diamond shape can be hand stamped with any text you request to make this the perfect, one off gift.
BAGS - BOOKHOUDESIGNare actually based in Canada, but make the most gorgeous leather and waxed canvas bags - a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it if you have a bagaholic in your life!
CARDS AND WRAPPING -TABBY RABBITcreate lino printed cards and wrapping paper with a canine theme..you'll also find a few cats in there too if you're not a dog person! The simplicity of the black with natural brown and white paper is classic and always on trend. I love her cards with pom pom hats!
I could go on....and on.....but I'd be here all day. There are so many amazing makers out there, once you start looking you'll be spoilt for choice.
So why not pop the kettle on, settle down with a cuppa and your laptop and get started with that Christmas list. You'll be thanking yourself come Christmas Eve!
